FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why does my engine have low Power?
Today's engines have been designed to have more output power and lower emissions than ever before. So when the output of your vehicles engine is compromised it is easily detected. When your vehicle has low power output it can mean several different things are occurring. You should know while your car has low performance it could be damaging components while you drive. Example: The emergency brake is on and you did not notice, this condition will burn up the rear brake pads or shoes and cause premature emergency brake failure. Or, the fuel filter is clogged causing the fuel pump to labor which can cause premature fuel pump failure. There are basically two kinds of low power conditions either the engine is running rough causing low power or the engine is running smoothly but still has low power. If the engine is running smoothly but has low power you are in the right place. If your engine is running rough causing low power please visit.
Why does my engine Stalls While Driving?
When your car is in use, many electronic components are used simultaneously creating electrical contacts to operate the various systems. Due to the many electrical components that make up these systems, diagnosing a particular one can sometimes be difficult. The malfunction could be from your ignition switch to the fuel pump but only a certain number of things can cause this condition. An electrical circuit that is starting to fail will do so more when the circuit is warm or hot. Anytime you find signs of heated or melted connections high resistance is present and could cause a shorted connection. Mechanical systems failure can also cause your engine to stall, but the majority of the engine stalling problems will be electronic based.
Why does my engine hesitate?
Definition: An engine hesitation is an interruption of continuous power during acceleration. When an engine is hesitating it will cause the car to lunge or surge during acceleration which will cause an sudden jerk as the car slows down. This condition can cause dangerous situations in heavy traffic when drivers behind you expect you to move continuously forward. An engine hesitation can be difficult to detect because as the engine is running under power you have to decide if the engine is shutting off for a split second or if the engine is just losing power temporarily. If your engine stalls and then restarts please visit,
Why does my engine cut out?
Please note that while an engine is hesitating it could cause damage to other components. Example: When an engine hesitates is will lose power then re-gain power quickly, this adds stress to the vehicles derive train and could cause premature failure. There are several systems are involved that can cause engine hesitation.
Why Engine Making a Clicking Noise?
Check the engine oil, your engine depends on clean engine oil to lubricate the internal moving parts, if the engine oil level is low or the oil is dirty it can cause internal engine parts to malfunction. For example: a valve lifter is responsible for holding valve train clearance to a minimum, if the oil level is low or dirty it can cause the lifter to malfunction which will allow excess valve train clearance creating engine tapping or clicking noise. In extreme cases or when your engine has run out or close to out it can cause one of the many bearing surfaces to fail causing permanent engine damage and noise until repairs have been made. If this condition is left unattended the engine will suffer permanent damage and fail. If your engine is making a noise change the engine oil and filter with the manufacturers recommended weight (viscosity) oil first, if that does not make a difference engine repair work is needed.
Why does my Car Brake pedal go to the floor and how do I repair?
Check the Brake System Fluid Level - Check the level of fluid in the brake master cylinder. It is natural for fluid to be a low if the front or rear brake pads/shoes have worn down, but if they are in good condition and the brake master cylinder reservoir is empty you might have a brake fluid leak somewhere in the system. Inspect front brake calipers, rear wheel cylinders (drums) or rear break calipers and flex hoses front and rear of vehicle and look for any sign of fluid leakage. Also check the rear of the brake master cylinder for fluid leaks, if brake fluid is present the master cylinder seals have failed and the master cylinder needs to be replaced. Replace any parts that are leaking or show signs of previous leakage. Refill and bleed the brake system as needed. (Note: if brake fluid has contacted the brake components i.e. brake pads or brake shoes the brake lining material is contaminated and must be replaced) If the brake fluid in the reservoir is full proceed to the next step.
Testing Engine Vacuum systems
An engine generates vacuum when running, this vacuum is used to operate several accessories from the temperature control system (heater, air conditioner) to the cruise control. Testing a vacuum source is simple, remove the vacuum line from any giving accessory and attach the vacuum gauge. Start engine and allow to idle, the gauge should read between 14 and 18 inches of vacuum. If a low or no vacuum exits there is blockage or breakage of a vacuum line. Inspect all vacuum line integrity, then remove vacuum line from the engine source and check for blockage, repair as needed and recheck the system.
Why is My Car Service Engine Soon or Check Engine Light On or Flashing?
There is no mysterious reason your "service engine soon" illuminates on the instrument cluster of your car. If you see a "check engine" or a "service engine soon" light in your instrument cluster; your car has stored a diagnostic trouble code Which means the computer system on your vehicle has detected a problem within various systems it controls. Your car has many different sensors that monitor the various vehicle systems. If the trouble code light has been illuminated your vehicle enters into "limp mode" this means it is running on a predetermined program that causes poor mileage and increased emissions. An engine trouble code reader is an easy to use tool. All 1996 and newer vehicles utilize a "D" style plug-in connector that connects to the code reader. On most vehicles the connector is located at the drivers compartment. Once the code reader is plugged in you can retrieve trouble codes the engine computer has stored in its memory. These codes are the same codes the dealer and repair shops use to diagnose and repair your vehicle, as well as clearing the trouble codes from the computer’s memory. An engine trouble codes reader is an easy to use tool and is a worthwhile investment for future repairs
